Editing - Sound

Noise Removal

At one point in our film when we filmed outside, there is an aeroplane flying overhead; when we cut to another shot which was filmed at a different time, the noise cuts out very noticeably, and so I opened the sound file in Adobe Audition and used the 'Spot Healing Brush Tool' to remove the low rumbling noise at the bottom of the sound graph. This results in the sound flowing more smoothly from one clip to the next.

As there was some fuzz in the background of some of our clips, we added to the 'DeNoiser' effect to the audio files to remove it. As you can see here, we reduced the noise by 10.6dB, and increased the offset to 2.5 dB. You can see the effect this has in the video below.

Transitions

While editing, we also used the 'Constant Power' and 'Exponential Fade' effects to make the transition between clips sound smooth; 'Constant Power' blends the beginning and end of the sound clips so there is no jump between them, and 'Exponential Fade' fades out the audio for the end of a scene. You can hear examples of both of these effects in the video.
