Target Audience Of Films

The Bourne Supremacy

The Bourne Supremacy’s target audience is teenagers, young adults and adults. It has a 12 bbfc rating so can be watched be a larger audience and lets them know that it contains a dark tone and violence which is typical of many action/thriller films. As it is the same genre that we are looking at we will look at incorporating features like fight scenes into our work. However the film is mainly aimed at a male audience so we will look at including features from other films to appeal to a larger female audience.

Kill Bill

Kill Bill’s target audience is young adults and adults. It has an 18 BBFC rating so can’t be watched by as big of an audience as films with 12/12a rating, it lets the audience know that it will have extreme violence and mature themes which I seen in more intense action films. Although we are looking at the same genre it is best if we do not make our film as intense as this film because then we would not have as large an audience. We will incorporate fight scenes and tense music into our work as that is a common theme in action films. As the main character is a female it makes the film unique because having a female protagonist in an action film is uncommon, it appeals to the female audience so we will look at making our protagonist female, or making one of the characters involved in any fights a female to break conventions.

Panic Room

Panic Room’s target audience is young adults and adults. It has a 15 bbfc rating so can’t be watched by under 15’s which shows the audience it isn’t too intense or violent but still includes elements that can make it intense so appeals to a medium audience. It shows the audience that there will be violence but not too much so can be safe for families with older teenagers and will be exciting for older watchers who want an intense film. The idea of the two women fighting off the men fights the convention that women in action films are powerless so will appeal to female audiences as it represents them positively and appeals to male audiences who enjoy action films. We will look at the use of the women fighting even though inexperienced as it makes the women seem more confident and powerful as they fight even though they don’t know how to.
