Editing - After Effects

Text Message

In this scene, rather than having a shot of the phone with the text arriving, we wanted to make it more interesting; so in After Effects, we made it so that the text message will appear when Helena clicks on the message on her phone.

First, I created a text message box in Photoshop, then opened it in After Effects. I then added keyframes to the scale so that the box would appear and get bigger, and then after a certain length of time added more so that it would shrink and disappear.

Then, I added the 'Typewriter ' animation preset to the text in the text message box and added keyframes so that the message would appear as if it is being written when the box has appeared. Then, I added more keyframes so that it would disappear in the same way.

Motion Tracking

We also wanted to test our After Effects skills and make it clear that Helena had received the message by motion tracking her phone so that when the text message appears, it will move as her phone does.

To do this, I motion tracked Alice's phone through the part of the clip that she is holding it and then parented the text message box to the motion trackers, so that the box will move as the phone does throughout the whole time it is on screen.
