Inspiration

This is Lucy's research on the short film "Pivot", which inspired our film in many ways.

Story

For the final confrontation between Helena and the Boss, we took inspiration from the black and white scene at the beginning of the Bond film “Casino Royale”; here, the tension is mounting, as neither agent knows what the other is going to do next. The atmosphere could almost be cut with a knife as the two face off, the desk the only thing separating them. There is a shock at the end as Bond pulls a gun and shoots the double agent, and we think it would be effective to include a shock like that in our film, as well as a great deal of suspense, to keep the audience hooked.

Music

In one of our production meetings, we said that our lead character of Helena would be ambitious, resilient and prepared to do anything to advance up the careers ladder and get what she wants; this reminded me of a song from the “Sherlock” Series 2 score, “Prepared to Do Anything”. We gave this a listen and we felt that some of the faster sections of the piece could be useful for our confrontation scene or fight scene, with permission from the composers.

Blood

When the victim is shot, we wanted to see the blood pooling on the floor next to where the murderer (the Boss) is stood, and so this reminded us of the scene in BBC’s “Sherlock” where Moriarty shoots himself; we thought we could base our camera angles on this and take inspiration from it, to find an effective way of filming it.
