Sound Effects

Opening Title/Camera SFX

For our opening title, we wanted a flashbulb sound effect with a 'charge' noise at the end, for the title 'Exposure' to fade up to. We couldn't find any effects that incorporated both noises, so we found them separately.

These are two sound effects that we didn't decide to use, as we didn't think the sounds were suitable or weren't as good as ones we had already found.

Running Away SFX

We needed the sound of someone running away to put over the shot where the Boss turns around because she has heard something, and we thought it would be easier to find the sound that record our own. So, we found the noise of leaves crunching and the sound of someone walking on concrete; these are effective because there were leaves on the ground when we were filming the walking scene and the walking SFX has the rustle of their clothing too, which makes it sound more realistic.

Here you can see that we have added 'constant power' and 'exponential fade' effects onto the beginning and the end of the sound effects, in order to make the start of the sound softer, and to fade the sound out, to make it sound like she is getting further away.

We also added the 'EQ' effect, and turned down the gain for all channels to make the sound more distance, as it is coming from around the corner.

Gunshot SFX

We needed a gunshot sound effect for when Sam the intern gets shot by the Boss, so we searched online for an effect that matched the type of gun she uses.

We decided to use this gunshot sound effect, as it sounded right for the type of gun we have - not too low and powerful, as it is just a handgun. It was downloaded from soundbible.com.

We decided not to use either of these sound effects, as the first (from YouTube) sounded a bit too much like a Western movie, and the second (from soundbible.com) sounded to low and powerful to be our gun.

Heartbeat SFX

We decided to add in a heartbeat sound effect to build up tension in the shooting scene.

We decided to use this sound effect, as it is a good speed and can easily be sped up to increase tension without losing quality.

We decided not to use this sound effect, as it was too fast to begin with; we thought it would be easier to speed something up rather than slow it down.

To build the tension, we sped up the clip of the heartbeat sound effect each time, but ticked the box for 'maintain audio pitch' to keep the quality the same.
